Welcome to TKNott on Business! This will be a blog dedicated to aspiring entrepreneurs, business owners, anyone in a management aspect of their lives, and anyone in a leadership role.
As a wife to an entrepreneur, and an entrepreneur myself, I want to take you inside the business world. And if you are already in it, I want to help you grow!
I will cover everything from good management practices to building a business, low-cost start-ups, and even help you with understanding aspects of business. I will add printables soon created by myself specifically for businesses in a separate page on the website as well. Whether it is for organizing your day to day, different flow chart styles for operations, or financial aspects for sleek styles and creative ones!
Who Am I?
I am Kayla and this is TKNott on Business! I am a mom to 8 kiddos, 4 are biological and the other 4 are my step kids. Not that this matters to me, they are my kids. I am a wife, and I love writing. I also really enjoy business, which I learned over the last few years!
Business used to be something that intrigued me, but it also scared me. When I stepped foot into this world that fear left with determination in its place. I love gaining new knowledge about the business world or anything really, and I love helping people.
When I was pretty little, I was told that I could do anything, and today I tell people this same thing.
Why am I Qualified to Talk Business?
Maybe you have seen a hundred blogs about business, so why should you care about this one? Why am I even qualified to talk business with you?
Currently, I am a freelance writer working for myself and helping clients with their writing needs, I have more than 10 years of experience with writing and am pretty adaptive to the style. I started freelancing in 2020.
I also own and run a blog separate than this one based on mental health, lifestyle, parenting, and relationships. This began in 2022 after a tragedy in my family. And, in 2014, I published my first fiction novel, I still practice this kind of writing as well and am actually in the middle of writing a fantasy novel.
Here in about three to four months, I will begin a sole proprietorship in the cottage food industry, for which I have already started a business plan.
I completed a business plan for a farm and ranch business that my husband and I are starting as soon as we have property as well. This will be an LLC entity when it begins.
Now you might be thinking this sounds great Kayla, but it is not really much business experience, right? Let us talk further!
My husband started an LLC back in 2021 for a construction company, it is called 8 Heirs Construction. Two years after its birth, I turned it into an S-Corp! I also manage the books, complete secretarial duties, keep up with all of the quarterly reports, and get our income statement ready for the tax accountant.
I could certainly do that myself, but after dealing with payroll all year, getting W-2’s ready, filing the MW-3 report, etc., I am kind of beat, so I do not do our annual taxes.
Yes, this means I do most if not all of the paperwork making me extremely understanding of the inside of a business! My husband could do it himself, but he does not like it and well, I do so why make him suffer?
This was my husband’s venture, but I have been with him, learning with him, and growing with him the entire lifetime of his company and even helping him run it.
I am also a full-time student at Southern New Hampshire University’s online campus, would you want to guess what my major is? If you thought business, you are spot on my friend! Helping my husband with his business has greatly helped my success as a business major!
I am in the process of obtaining a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in entrepreneurship. My end goal after the cottage food business and farm and ranch business is to start a resort. It will be all-inclusive and utilize food grown on our farm and ranch!
I started my degree at the end of June 2021, just 3 months after my husband began his venture. At the end of next month, April 2024, I will have completed all of my business required courses and only have chosen electives for the rest of my college journey which ends in 2025.
Everyone starts somewhere, and my journey started 4 years ago when I dipped my toes in the sand for freelancing.
Who is This Blog For?
This blog is for anyone at any stage in their entrepreneurship or intrapreneurship journey. You may have years of experience on me, but sometimes a new and fresh look can be incredibly helpful!
You may be just beginning your journey into the business world, and I can help with that too! Whether it is what kind of business to start, how to start it, what kind of leader you could be, even business plan tips.
Maybe you are not in an entrepreneurial role, but you are a manager or a leader for a company, perhaps an intrapreneur, my help can even extend here! Tips on best management practices, ideas for company morale, or even team morale, taking your leadership style to the next level, etc.
Or maybe you are none of the above but have an interest in business! Whoever you are, and whatever your place is I will do my absolute best to give you advice and personal reflections on a business reality. I am aiming for your success!

I may not have fifteen plus years in the business realm, but I do have extensive knowledge and even a passion for business. Take your information from someone who gets it and loves it!
